Challenge: Our friends Bill & Liz asked if we wanted to help the Responsible Gambling Council create an HTML5 game for teens about the risks of gambling. Except…we couldn’t have any elements of chance or gambling in the game! And it had to appeal to everyone from non-gamers to COD elite strike force players.
Solution: We got together and pitched a couple of dozen games and approaches, and by working the RGC, Liz and Bill, we refined some pretty out there ideas into a game with 3 mini-games, all designed to be a little bit different each time they were played but still delivering key messages. The designs are pretty psychedelic, and we were given a LOT of freedom to just create, which is a joy for people like Joan, Connie, Mathew and Hooman. Connie created remarkable characters, Joan animated and built alternate universe beings, Hooman had things bouncing and spinning, and Mathew kept it all together visually and spiritually.
Result: The designs are amazing, the games are fun for most players, and the feedback from teens has been outstanding! We liked the characters so much we made stickers and they are all over the office.
